Choosing a Piercing Studio, Beyond Credentials

@ 06:45 AM (42 months, 23 days ago)
Years ago, while i was still in university i got a nipple pierced. The piercer was a decent enough guy but we were away from any large town and their shop was the only one for hours in any direction.

The crew were all laid out in big guage gorgeousness so i wasn't too worried about their abilities. They also claimed to be licensed and i'm sure they were. What they weren't was compassionate. I now understand that that is a major selling point in any new studio i care to visit.

I understand that most people that get most piercings have amazingly adept body chemestry whatever and could probably take a lead pipe under the clavicle not have the slightest problem. I unfortunately am not one of these people.

My wee little nipple piercing went astray after only a few days. My body did its best to reject the piece of steel from my body almost immediatley. I think I know why.

When the piercer had my nipple in a crushing grip with a sadistic pair of forceps his cell phone rang. Sure it was just a few feet away from us, but he picked it up anyway. Thankfully he told the caller that he was unable to talk because he was in the middle of a piercing. Unfortunately he had dragged my now throbbing nipple over just a bit further than was necessary. He soon found his mark like a pro and I had a lovely closed end hoop right where I wanted it.

I live in Northern BC and it was cold outside so perhaps that didn't help but the second i steped outside my nipple jumped up causing pain and irritation that wasn't necessary, so I can't blame the entire rejection on the piercer but I do believe the initial irritation of my nipple caused by it being dragged around a piercing studio with a pair of Death-Camp forceps by a piercer with an incredibly strong grip didn't help one bit.

Less than a week later, I had my hoop removed by a very kind and compassionate piercer from a different studio but for another week watched in horror as my nipple began to deformed. Horrorified i returned to the compassionate studio that removed my piercing and they reassured me that perhaps there was a speck of something foreign inside my nipple. They were spot on and my nipple later healed just fine.

I went well out of my way to visit the piercing studio of compassion, as i now call it, and have had three more piercings done by the same kind pro that took care of me before.

I guess my message to piercers around the world is: Were not all made of steel! Some of us need a gentle touch every once in a while.

  1. Personally I have found nipple huggers (http://nipple-huggers.com) are a much safer alternate. No chance of infection, no pain. Nipple Huggers are completely adjustable, so YOU control the size and YOU control the tension.
